Celebrating Black Philanthropy Month: Giving back to Black Businesses in Connecticut

August is Black Philanthropy Month, a time to celebrate and promote the power of Black giving and community support. In Connecticut, August has been officially dedicated to recognizing the contributions of Black philanthropists and encouraging more collective giving to address issues affecting Black communities. As we observe this important month, it's crucial to highlight how Black businesses in Connecticut can benefit from increased Black philanthropy and how they can contribute to its growth.

Black philanthropy addresses systemic disparities and fostering economic empowerment within Black communities. Pooling resources and supporting initiatives uplift these communities where Black philanthropists can drive meaningful change and create opportunities for future generations. These collaborative efforts are important for Black businesses.

One of the more significant challenges for Black businesses is access to capital. We need Black philanthropy to provide much-needed funding for startups, expansions, and other business ventures, helping entrepreneurs overcome financial hurdles and achieve their goals. We support Black philanthropy initiatives by including networking events and mentorship programs. Through this programming, we encourage connections between industry experts and rising entrepreneurs to exchange valuable insights and build relationships that foster growth and stability..

Black philanthropy amplifies the voices of Black business owners, raising awareness of their contributions and challenges. Whether through financial donations, volunteer efforts, or in-kind contributions, Black businesses continue to set an example by giving back to their communities.

Black Philanthropy month gives us an opportunity to share our stories of philanthropic efforts, highlight community needs, and encourage customers and partners to get involved.

We support the next generation of business leaders as they contribute to a cycle of empowerment and growth. We applaud the wins such as our CIO (Chief Investment Officer) Anna Blanding as a new member of the Kresge Foundation Board. The Kresge Foundation, a private, national foundation works to expand equity and opportunities in America’s cities through grantmaking and social investing in arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services, and community development.
